Getting started on LinkedIn


You must have a complete profile. If you haven’t already joined LinkedIn, head here, click “Join Now” and fill out the blanks.

Once you enter LinkedIn, you will notice a huge amount of information that is being asked for. Don’t stress, it is relatively easy to fill this out – this guide is the first of a series that will help unfold your LinkedIn potential. It is handy to have your current resume nearby – it will help as we progress.

LinkedIn separates your information into the following subsections:

  • Header
  • Sections
  • Summary
  • Experience
  • Languages
  • Skills & Expertise
  • Recommendations
  • Additional Information (websites/twitter etc.)

These are what we will fill out to give recruiters the best chance of finding you. This is a passive strategy, and right now, this is what we aim to create. As we progress, you will also learn how to proactively target new contacts and opportunities – taking the initiative to secure the career of your dreams.

In the next post, I will go into detail for each of these subsections, and give advice on how to set these up most effectively.
